The Kansas City Chiefs have been busy early in free agency and they’re showing no interest in slowing down. What they are showing an interest in cornerback Sean Smith as early reports are that the Chiefs are going to pursue the top defensive back on the market.

Despite agreeing to sign cornerback Dunta Robinson as soon as they could, the Chiefs need all the help they can get on defense and pairing Robinson with Smith is not the worst idea in the world. Besides, it sure beats the moves Scott Pioli has made in the recent past.

Smith has been generating a lot of interest from teams as soon as it was announced that he was hitting the open market. The Chiefs won’t be the only team ringing Smith’s phone and a deal isn’t expected to be done until later in the weekend but the fact that Chiefs have already gone after him indicates that the price is going to rise quickly for other teams interested in bringing him in.

The Broncos might make a run at Smith as it was reported on Friday that Denver was interested in Dunta Robinson before the Chiefs agreed to a deal with him. The Broncos are in the market for a corner as Champ Bailey’s age is quickly becoming an issue in terms of his talent.

The weekend is still young, but teams are already active and Sean Smith is bound to get some serious action, the Chiefs aren’t going to be the only team calling him up as we get closer and closer to the official start of free agency.
