The Seattle Seahawks have made some more noise, this time of the free agent variety. After trading for Minnesota Vikings receiver Percy Harvin earlier in the week, the Seahawks have made some free agents waves by sneaking in an signing defensive end Cliff Avril. Many believed Avril would end up with the Cleveland Browns, but per Albert Breer, Avril is now a Seattle Seahawk.

With Avril coming to town, the Seahawks have found a way to fill a hole they were initially looking to the draft to do. Avril may not be young and he didn’t come cheap but he’s going to be the edge rusher the Seahawks need and he is now a part of one the finer offseasons the Seahawks have had in some time. In a span of half a week, the Seahawks grabbed an elite wide receiver and a high-end defensive player to add to their already talented roster.

One thing the Seahawks are moving to do is to protect against the Read-Option better in 2013. Colin Kaepernick’s existence in their division is a motivating factor to figure out the offense, but by practicing against Russell Wilson, the defense may be able to get a good idea of what to look for on Sundays. Avril showed speed and agility in Detroit and he’ll add something the Seahawks can definitely use on the end.

There was some hope in Cleveland that the Browns were going to be able to snag Avril, but Seattle offered more and he may end up being a better fit where he landed.
