The Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats were involved in a spirited Big 12 tournament championship game on Saturday night, but the Jayhawks were able to pull away down the final stretch and earn the tournament title win a 70-54 win. Kansas will now roll in to the NCAA tournament with a win as they prepare for the madness.

Kansas could present a challenging outing in the big dance for their early foes thanks in part to their veteran leadership. Expect Kansas to be seeded in the top half of their region once the full field is announced.

Unlike some of the other teams fighting for their tournament title, the automatic bid wasn’t these teams only chance at securing their spot in the big dance.

Both teams were locks to make the 2013 NCAA tournament field heading in to the conference championship, so there is no reason to feel bad for either squad. Each team will have a chance to move forward in the tournament and they should be top five seeds.

Expect Kansas to be a No. 2 seed following the win, but they are definitely in the conversation to take one of the top seeds that are up for grabs after a wild conference championship week.

As for Kansas State, the Wildcats should come in as a No. 4 or No. 5 seed.

If the two teams want another crack at each other, they likely won’t get that chance unless they both win their regions and meet in the Final Four.

While the speculation is nice, the complete field of tournament participants will be announced on Selection Sunday less than twenty four hours from now.
