Free agent defensive end Elvis Dumervil is currently weighing his options between contract offers from the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens, but a third team has reportedly “jumped into the discussion” to sign Dumervil and it’s actually a familiar face. The Miami Dolphins have entered the race as a third team looking to sign Dumervil in the near future.

People are reporting this as though the Dolphins are just now entering discussions to add Dumervil, but that’s not true. The Dolphins are actually re-entering the conversation as the Dolphins have been floating the idea of adding the Miami native for some time now. In fact, as soon as Dumervil was cut by the Broncos after the strange events that lead to his release, the Dolphins were one of the first teams attached to Dumervil, albeit by outside sources.

Not only are the Dolphins re-entering the discussion to sign Dumervil, but they’re the favorites to do so if you look at it. Both the Broncos and Ravens are strapped for cash, and the despite splurging on offensive weapons this offseason the Dolphins still have more cap space than both Denver and Baltimore. Dumervil was looking for money in Denver which is what slowed his restructuring process.

So a return to Miami makes more sense than ever now that Dumervil’s suitors are down to three, with one of them having two things he’s holds true: big money and his hometown.
