As the NFL Draft quickly approaches, we are beginning to understand more and more what direction NFL teams are looking with their picks early in the first few rounds. The Dallas Cowboys plans and thoughts are the latest to come to the public eye after it was reported the team thinks of North Carolina guard Jonathan Cooper very highly and that he is one of the top players on their draft board.

USA Today’s Tony Pauline wrote:

"I’ve been told the Dallas Cowboys have Jonathan Cooper/G/North Carolina as one of their top first round targets and are looking at Stepfan Taylor/RB/Stanford in round three."

This time of year there can be smoke screens sent out from teams, but we have to believe this has some form of legitimacy.

Pauline is always very dialed in to the rumblings around the league, so whenever he speaks, we listen.

The problem with the Cowboys interest in Cooper is that he could be off the board by the time Dallas is on the clock with their first-round pick. If Cooper is still available, it would be a no-brainer for the Cowboys to scoop him up and immediately improve their interior line talent — a position that has been lacking for years.

Cooper’s footwork is nearly flawless and his athleticism for his size is second to none.

There is little doubt to why Cooper is considered one of the top guard prospects to come along in some time. If Dallas could bring him in, it would be one of the best football decisions the franchise has made in the past few years.
