2013 LPGA Golf: Inbee Park Looking For Second Major Title at Nabisco

Inbee Park will take a three-shot lead into the final round of The Kraft Nabisco Championship on Sunday, and seek her second Major title. Once again, the fourth ranked Park, from South Korea put on a clinic with the flat stick at The Dinah Shore Tournament Course in the afternoon desert winds.

Inbee Park shot a bogey-free -5 under par 67 round on Saturday afternoon with flags standing straight out in the wind, and at -12 under par, has a three shot lead over

Lizette Salas

who hung in there, making only one bogey on the day at the par three eighth hole.

"“I think I played really good the last few years, but then I just didn’t putt that well on these greens,” said Park. “But this year it seems like I’m reading the breaks really good and the putts are rolling in, so I think that’s been a big difference.”"

Lizette Salas is in her second year on the LPGA Tour, and is in unfamiliar territory playing along with the veteran. Salas is a USC Grad, and is ranked 40th in the Rolex Rankings.  In her four starts in major events, Salas’ best finish came in 2011 at the U.S. Women’s Open where she tied for 15th and was still an amateur. The Southern California native said she’s looking forward to giving a chase to Rolex Rankings No. 4 Inbee Park and is full of confidence heading into the final round.

"“No, not in my professional career,” said Salas. “Maybe in college I came back to win a golf tournament, and so this is all a learning experience for me, and I’m just trying to have fun with it.  You know, if I just keep it simple and just stick to my game plan and just really believe that I can pull it off and I have so many people around me that believe in it, I just have to believe it myself, so we’ll just see.”"

There is a group of pretty good players in the rear-view mirror, but they would have to shoot some very low score to catch up. With Sunday forecasted to be the windiest, I don’t see anyone making a huge run unless someone get very hot, very early. A group at -6 under par includes Karrie Webb, Angela Stafford, Karine Icher, Suzann Pettersen, and Jessica Korda. Paula Creamer, and Caroline Hedwell are one more stroke back at -5 under par.

The number one player in the world, Stacy Lewis, and Michelle Wie are out of it at this point at -1 under par. Wie continues to sport her new goofy putting stroke, and Lewis hasn’t been on-track all week. Her week started off with a triple bogey six at the par three 14th hole on Thursday, and she has never seemed to recover.

Popular amateur, Lydia Ko made the cut, but stands at +1 for the week. She hasn’t played poorly, she just hasn’t played well. She was two over par on Friday when she only made one birdie on the day, and shot a 2 over par 74. She came back on Saturday, but was only one under, and just hasn’t made enough birdies to be competitive.
