The Kansas City Chiefs addressed their cornerback situation during free agency with the signings of Dunta Robinson and Sean Smith, but the players order on the depth chart was initially unclear. Now that we are in to the team’s minicamps, we are getting a better idea of how the players are lining up.

The good news for the Chiefs is that they now have three very capable corners that can shut down opposing receivers.

When the Chiefs took the field on Tuesday for minicamp, Brandon Flowers and Dunta Robinson lined up as the team’s starting cornerbacks, according to the Kansas City Star. Smith would come in for the nickle package and replace Flowers, as he would bump in to the slot.

As camp goes on, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Chiefs go with their more physical receivers — Flowers and Smith — in the base packages.

Smith is a willing tackler and will always come up and stick his nose on the ball carrier. That is something you would want to take advantage of, so the Chiefs would be wise to insert him in to the starting line up.

They could also consider giving Robinson reps at safety, if they are looking to get him more playing time.

Of course, it is still early in camp and the Flowers – Robinson starting duo is just one of many combinations the Chiefs will try out. We will get a much clearer picture on their cornerback situation once training camp begins.
