We’re just a week away from one of the most exciting days in football, but there is still mystery surrounding who will be the first overall pick and who will be picking that player. So far the rumors have been all over the map, from the Kansas City Chiefs trading down, to them taking anyone from Dee Milliner to Eric Fisher. But according to CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora, the mystery is about to dissipate as he’s been told by sources that Luke Joeckel “will be” the Chiefs pick when they go on the clock.

"Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel will be the first name called next week. According to numerous league sources, the Chiefs are locked in on him, barring anything unforeseen, after also strongly considering Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher. But Joeckel has played in a tougher conference and is a safer pick…"

This seems to jive with everything the Chiefs appear to be doing. They cut Eric Winston and have tried to move Branden Albert to right tackle, but since he’s refusing to do that the Chiefs are now trying to trade him. By trading their current left tackle, the Chiefs are letting everyone know what they’re doing, and this really comes as no surprise.

However, the drama has always surrounded who they will be selecting. It has been down to Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel for some time now, but as LaCanfora’s sources point out, the Texas A&M product has faced much competition in the SEC than Fisher did at Central Michigan.

Again, anything can happen in the week until the draft, and last minute deals are common place this time of year. But if LaCanfora’s sources are kosher, the look of how the first round will turn out is beginning to take shape.
