The Denver Broncos are picking 28th overall in this week’s NFL Draft, and according to John Elway that’s the perfect place to be picking. Elway has been very vocal about this year’s draft class, but not much of what he’s said has been positive and now that we’re roughly 48 hours away from the start of the big event, Elway’s tune hasn’t changed a bit.

When talking about the NFL Draft class, Elway said that what’s lacking is an impact player and he’s not upset about picking later in the first round, as it means he’s going to get a “darn good” player.

“We don’t look at it as there’s a ton of impact guys, but there is a lot of depth to it, and there is a lot of real good football players,” Elway said, via USA Today. “So that’s where we feel at 28 we could get a darn good football player.”

Elway also took another shot at this year’s quarterback class, something he’s done all offseason long. Elway has stated that this year’s class is hit or miss when it comes to quarterbacks and is glad he already got his quarterback situation figured out with Peyton Manning.

“I’m just glad we’re not in that market, let’s put it that way,” Elway said.

When the Broncos go on the clock with the 28th overall pick, it’s widely believed that the team will be taking a pass rusher or cornerback of some sort. Elway’s general disinterest in the 2013 draft class also suggests that he could trade down again, as the Broncos traded out of the first round last year when they gave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the pick they drafted running back Doug Martin with.
