Floyd Mayweather successfully defended his WBC welterweight title on Saturday night, when he dominated challenger Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on pay-per view. Guerrero put on a tough, gritty performance, but the hand speed of Mayweather was too much for the Mexican contender to overcome.
Mayweather started off slow and left Guerrero hanging on in the fight throughout the early rounds, but once the champion began to utilize his right hand as the lead punch, he pulled away from Guerrero and never looked back on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
All of the judges scored the bout in favor of Mayweather and, for once, they appeared to all be watching the same fight. Every score read 117-111.
With another successful title defense in the bag, many fans will now begin to call for a fight between Mayweather and undefeated sensation Canelo Alvarez, who is currently the WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine Light Middleweight Champion. If the two sides can reach an agreement and make this fight happen at the end of the year, it will be a historic event with major payouts for both parties.
