Minnesota Vikings Release Chris Kluwe

A move that we all seemed to know was coming finally took place on Monday afternoon. The Minnesota Vikings parted ways with outspoken punter and social media star Chris Kluwe. The writing had been on the wall that this move was coming, but now we no longer have to wonder.

Kluwe said his goodbye to the Vikings and their fans on Twitter Monday afternoon:

It is hard to wonder whether or not Kluwe being so outspoken had something to do with the team’s decision to part ways with him, but we all knew this was coming whenever Minnesota spent a fifth-round pick on a punter in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Kluwe will likely find new work very soon and, when he does, he will be able to immediately provide a boost to the community and level of talent on the team’s roster.

I know this much — One year ago, it was crazy watching thousands of Vikings fans spout off online, freaked out that a 3-13 team would release a 37 year old kicker. Look how that turned out. Locke was the first punter taken for a reason — he’s good. And for those saying it’s stupid to spend a 5th round pick on a punter, the Raiders took Ray Guy in the 1st round. Greatest punter ever, and he played for 14 years. A 5th round pick is nothing if Locke plays as well as they expect him too. ** Field position **
