New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes and quarterback Mark Sanchez have had their fair share of disagreements on the field throughout their time together in New York, so it is a bit surprising to hear that Holmes has come to the defense of Sanchez and anointed him the team’s starter. Of course, Holmes doesn’t make the decisions, but it looks like Sanchez has the support of the locker room.

“Right now, it’s (Mark) Sanchez and that’s who we’re going with and we’re going to continue on this road until time permits,” Holmes said, via Conor Orr of The Star-Ledger.

The Jets also have Geno Smith, David Garrard and Greg McElroy on the roster and they are poised for a tough positional battle this offseason.

It is hard to see Rex Ryan going with a rookie when he knows his job is on the line, so it could very well be that he rolls with his quarterback in Sanchez as he looks to make one final hoorah. If someone other than Sanchez was to win the job, my guess would be Garrard.
