The Atlanta Hawks are actively searching for a replacement to fill the void that was left by former head coach Larry Drew. While the process is just beginning, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Hawks have a specific target in mind. Wojnarowski reports that general manager Danny Ferry has made former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy his top target and that Ferry is aggressively pursuing him.

Atlanta is expected to make a strong push at Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard when he becomes a a free agent on July 1.

Not only would the Hawks have the advantage of pitching Howard a return to his hometown, but the addition of Van Gundy could have a familiar face that would interest Howard in a trip back home.

Howard and Van Gundy have clashed in the past, but Howard has also expressed his respect for Van Gundy as a head coach. A potential reunion could be very intriguing.

Van Gundy has not made a decision about a potential return to coaching, but the Atlanta job could be enough to lure him back to the sideline.
