The market for former Indianapolis Colts pass rusher Dwight Freeney has developed very slowly, but it will start to pick up next week according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Freeney is expected to begin making team visits next week with a number of teams interested in his services.

Rapoport wrote:

Among the teams most interested in Freeney’s services are the Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos.

With the news that former Atlanta Falcons pass rusher John Abraham is looking for a full-time role as a starting defensive end, a number of teams (especially contenders) could be more attracted to Freeney because he is more willing to join a team as a situational pass rusher.

Freeney’s numbers took a dip last season, but that could be in large part because he was making the transition to outside linebacker in a 3-4 instead of the 4-3 defensive end where he spent a majority of his career.

If he could find a team that will rotate him at defensive end, he could be well worth the investment.
