The Chicago Bears need help on their offensive line, so it’s no surprise that some major changes may be in store for the unit tasked with making sure Jay Cutler doesn’t get whiney or concussed. One of those major changes may be to cut former first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi, a guy the Bears selected just two years ago with their first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Carimi was touted out of Wisconsin but he failed to jive with the Bears system and was hardly a factor his first two seasons in Chicago. According to the Chicago Tribune, things might change if he doesn’t get things in to order and kick himself into gear.

"“Forget battling for a starting job right now, the 2011 first-round draft pick faces competition for a roster spot. The Bears essentially have made right tackle a battle between J’Marcus Webb and Jonathan Scott, a non-flashy veteran who impressed the front office last season. While that is far from settled, it could put Carimi in a battle for a backup job at guard with James Brown, an undrafted free agent last year, and journeyman Edwin Williams, whose ability to play center is an asset for a team without a clear reserve behind Roberto Garza.”"

Cutting Carimi wouldn’t be a total shock as the Bears used such threats on the battle between J’Marcus Webb and Chris Williams last season. Notice, Chris Williams — who was also a former first-round pick– is no longer on he team.

The Bears drafted Kyle Long to try and improve the offensive line and even his job might not be safe the way the Bears are looking to re-tool the line. Everyone’s fighting for a starting position around the NFL this time of year, but in Chicago everyone — specifically Carimi– are fighting for a job.
