Oakland Raiders Reach Agreement With Josh Cribbs
By Josh Hill
Josh Cribbs was apparently a hot commodity on the free agent market — but was is the key phrase there. After days of visiting with teams like the New York Jets and Detroit Lions, Cribbs has agreed to a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, per multiple reports.
Cribbs has spent the last eight years with the Cleveland Browns and despite there being rumors of him being traded to the Houston Texans in the middle of last season, Cribbs rode things out with the Browns but clearly wasn’t a part of their future.
He made a name for himself as a dangerous return man but also managed to go in the opposite direction of a Devin Hester or a Dante Hall by becoming a viable receiving threat for the Browns. His full role with the Raiders isn’t completely known, but it’s very likely that he factors into the return game as Oakland tries to preserve Jacoby Ford as much as they can.
Despite not really being on a headline team, Cribbs is still one of the more known names in the NFL today and may be able to revive his career in Oakland — something no one ever manages to do. But the tide might be turning for the Raiders and Cribbs could end up being one of the better free agent signings this offseason.
