The Atlanta Hawks have not yet fired head coach Larry Drew, but he certainly cannot be very comfortable with the team. Atlanta has been interviewing a number of potential head coaching candidates despite no vacancy and they have added another name to the discussions. According to reports, the Hawks have reached out to CSKA Moscow head coach Ettore Messina.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

"Ettore Messina, the Italian-born coach of CSKA Moscow, is among the top candidates to replace coach Larry Drew. Ferry and Messina have had contact about the possibility, and Messina is intrigued with the chance to be a global trail blazer in the NBA, sources told Y! Sports.Ferry recently scouted CSKA Moscow in London at the Euroleague Final Four."

If the Hawks choose Messina, he would become the first European born head coach.

Messina was a consultant on Mike Brown’s staff with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he decided to leave for Europe before the start of the season.

It seems all but certain that the Hawks are going to part ways with Drew, so it is just a matter of when it happens.
