Free agent pass rusher Dwight Freeney visited the San Diego Chargers over the past two days and everything seemed to be going well, but he ended up leaving town without a contract for now. The 33-year-old has been looking for a new home since parting ways with the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the offseason and it looks like his pursuit of a new gig will last a little longer.

There is still a chance that the Chargers could come back to Freeney with a suitable contract offer closer to the start of the season.

According to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego, the Chargers signed outside linebacker Thomas Keiser yesterday, but that is now expected to affect the team’s interest in Freeney.

San Diego became interested in Freeney whenever starting outside linebacker Melvin Ingram went down during OTAs with a torn ACL. The team desperately needs to add a talent at the position and Freeney is as good as it gets on the free agent market.

We will all probably hear about Freeney and the Chargers again at a later date.
