Donald Penn is in a make or break season with the Buccaneers has he’s currently being paid way more than he’s worth on the field. That can all change if the tackle turns in a spectacular season, but as it stands now he’s been a bit of a pillow on the left side of the Bucs line. But while Penn may be refuting claims he needs to play better, he did take to Twitter to blast Mark Cook’s report that he has failed “most” of the weight clauses in his current contract.

The report in Pewter Report apparently drew Penn out of a brief Twitter slumber as he hadn’t posted since May 24th until he got wind of the report.

Penn’s best defense of the report can be his performance in 2013. While he hasn’t allowed Josh Freeman to constantly be in the dirt, he’s not the elite left tackle his $41 million contract he signed in 2010 would make you think he is. That being said, there are worse options in the NFL other than Penn, but a tweet refuting a report does little to settle a debate.

Next to the Buccaneers coming out and verifying if Penn did or didn’t fail most of the weight clauses in his contract, Penn just needs to come out and prove people wrong with his play — which is something Bucs fans had been hoping for anyways.
