There have been reports coming out of the Oakland Raiders camp that fourth-round selection Tyler Wilson has a real shot at earning the starting quarterback position, but let us not get too far ahead of ourselves. The latest report, which comes directly from the Raiders head coach, states that Matt Flynn is the team’s starting quarterback. For those who don’t remember, Flynn was acquired this offseason via trade.

“Yeah, right now that’s the way we’re going. Just like we’ve said before, we want to try to create as much competition as we can on this football team,” Allen said, according to the team’s website.

“That’s how you get better. When everybody competes and they compete in a way that they want to do what’s best for the football team, the cream always rises to the top. So Matt is our starting quarterback as we go forward right now. Until the competition dictates otherwise, that’s the way we’re going.”

Of course, Allen did just say “right now”, so it opens the door for Wilson to eventually unseat the quarterback who is itching for a chance.

The battle will likely spill in to training camp with both players looking to claim the job.
