He’s won an NBA title, is a multiple MVP and is the best player in the game but LeBron James has never appeared on the cover of a video game. That’s all about to change as 2K Sports has announced LeBron James will the cover athlete on this year’s version of the game.

It’s hard to imagine, but LeBron James has never appeared on the cover of a video game and it’s about time — no matter who you ask.

In an era where EA’s Madden supposedly rules over all sports games, 2K Studio’s NBA franchise has quickly become one of the best sports gaming experiences out there. From it’s sleek graphics to Kevin Harlan calling games and realistic television broadcast simulation, NBA2k has it out to be the best of the best and they seemingly are.

Details about the game have been trickling in but James’ being confirmed as the cover athlete is sure to boost sales even higher than they already are. Now that he’s the face of NBA2K14, James joins the company of Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan as athletes to have graced the cover of the game since 2011.

Unlike EA’s franchise of sports games, the folks at 2K Sports pick their cover athletes themselves and it’s hard to believe James has never been picked before. That’s all changing now and LeBron James has now been recognized in the world of videos games the way he’s been recognized in every facet of his life.
