Earlier on Saturday we learned from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the New York Jets were working out former Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Kellen Winslow later next week. We now know thanks to Schefter that the Jets will be trying out former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker as well when Winslow comes in next week.

You might remember Sims-Walker as the only other Jaguars wide receiver in the last few years besides Cecil Shorts to make noise in that offense. Fantasy football players will likely be the most familiar with Sims-Walker as he was a killer waiver pickup a few years ago for the Jaguars. But beyond a few good games in the later half of the 2009  season, Sims-Walker hasn’t really been the kind of receiver either the Jaguars or Rams over the years and he’s now found his way to New York for a try out.

Nothing is promised in Sims-Walker’s trip to Jets camp but given the sad state of that offense and the lack of weapons, he may be able to find a roster spot at least into training camp. The Jets have virtually no offense and their only weapon besides drafting Geno Smith was trading for Chris Ivory.

Sims-Walker is far from a standout given his past stats but all it takes is one good work out and the right opportunity to make some money in the NFL.
