Although the report is that Larry Bird is no longer interested in being the general manager of the Sacramento Kings, you have to wonder if he ever had any interest. Nothing against the Kings, who have no shortage of suitors lining up for their soon to be vacant GM spot, it’s just that Larry essentially has a standing offer to return to the Pacers organization and it was hard to envision him leaving his hometown Pacers, especially considering the job would take him completely across the country. Could it be nothing more than an attempt to get a few more dollars out of the Pacers by creating some leverage?

Whatever the case, apparent interest or not, it appears Larry Bird has taken himself out of the Kings’ general manager search, this according to the Sacramento Bee.

Per Ailene Voisin:

"Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird, who has discussed the Kings GM vacancy with new owner Vivek Ranadive and was said to be at least mildly intrigued, told team officials that he is no longer interested in the position. Bird sat out the 2012-13 season and is weighing whether to return to the Indiana Pacers- where he has an open invitation to resume his role as the team’s top basketball executive – or to extend his sabbatical a second season, both for personal and health reasons."
