Sources told Gogrizzlies.com that Memphis Head Coach Lionel Hollins will not return in 2014. This news means that a record number, 12 coaches have been let go by the NBA in 2013.

Days after Denver Coach George Karl was fired, this happens. The two share a common theme, both made it to the NBA Playoffs.

It’s a bit the surprising that Hollins was let go after making it to the second round of the NBA playoffs.

Quite harsh for the Memphis organization to think they can compete for NBA Championship every year. A small market team shouldn’t be satisfied with back-to-back second round exits, but they should certainly be happy with them. Nevertheless, Hollins is without a job.

You have to think that Lionel Hollins won’t be out of job for that long. He’s a successful NBA coach, who has left the Memphis organization in a better position, then it was before he arrived. With so many off-season departures, I suspect Hollins will be coaching in the NBA next season.

Where does he end up? Denver? Brooklyn?
