Tim Tebow has signed with the New England Patriots (did you hear that yet?) and it didn’t take long for his former head coach, who happens to coach a division rival, to be asked about his former quarterback. In fact, when New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan opened up his press conference on Tuesday, he immediately joked that he knew the direction things were preparing to go.

“I have a funny feeling there’s going to be more questions about former players than there are current players,” Ryan said when he opened up, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

While he started with a joke, Ryan went on to say that he is not surprised the quarterback who failed to impress him got a new gig.

“It’s not a surprise to me that Tim would be picked up,” Ryan added. “Obviously, as I’ve said before, (he’s) a tremendous young man. Very competitive. I’m happy for him and look forward to competing against him.”

Ryan was then asked whether or not he was concerned that the Patriots could find a way to use Tebow in a way that would come back to haunt the Jets. Once again, Ryan went ahead and resorted to humor.

“Not really,” he said. “If they want to replace Brady with him, that’s fine.”

The Jets head coach has to be thrilled that the Tebow circus is gone from the Jets locker room, but the problem is that Tebowmania has settled just a little north and still in the division. He can expect to continue hearing Tebow questions all season long.
