The Memphis Grizzlies are still on the lookout for a new head coach and have already started interviewing candidates. One head coach that would be of particular interest, was he to become available, would be Doc Rivers of the Boston Celtics.

On Wednesday it was reported that Rivers might feel like it’s time for a change and could be looking for a way out of Boston. If Doc was to leave the team, the Grizzlies would be very interested in acquiring his services, according to USA Today Sports:

"Meanwhile on the coaching front, the person said that the Grizzlies are monitoring the situation with Boston coach Doc Rivers and would have serious interest in him if he decides to leave the Celtics. Several reports have indicated that Rivers is considering leaving despite the fact that he has three years remaining on his contract. The Grizzlies have not requested permission to speak with Rivers."

The Grizzlies decided not to bring back Lionel Hollins, as the two parties couldn’t reach an agreement. Names such as Alvin Gentry, George Karl and Nate McMillan could fit with Memphis, but the team would be smart to wait out the situation in Boston before hiring a new coach.

If Rivers was to leave Boston, the Grizzlies would hardly be the only team in the league gunning for him, as there are several teams in the league that are yet to fill their head coaching vacancies and Rivers is one of the best in the business.
