The Pittsburgh Steelers are undergoing a transition period that could present a lot of exciting opportunities for the team’s younger players. We have already discussed the upcoming training camp battle that will take place at the running back position, but it looks like the competition will extend far beyond just the backfield.

The belief around Pittsburgh is that as much as half of their rookie class could make immediate contributions and play significant roles in their first season.

Steelers veteran Brett Keisel noticed the amount of competition that would take place and how it is setting up for training camp, and he told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review that this is setting up to be a special camp unlike anything he has ever seen in his career.

“There’s a lot of opportunities, probably more in this training camp, for guys to make the team than maybe I’ve ever been a part of,” said Keisel. “There’s a lot of openings, really. That’s what makes training camp so special. You find the guys that are able to rise up to those occasions. It will be an exciting camp, just as exciting as any.”

There is no denying that the Steelers are an aging team, so if they are able to get significant production from a number of their newcomers it could really set them up for a quick climb back to the top of the AFC North.
