Russian president Vladimir Putin does whatever he wants. He apparently also thinks about whether or not he can use an object to kill someone when he first sees it. That is the story we are hearing from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, at least. When the two men met, Putin was particularly drawn to Kraft’s ring. So when Putin had his hands on it to check out the shiny object, he decided it was time to take it home with him.

“I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring,’” Kraft said, according to the New York Post. “I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out.”

Now that is gangster.

Even better is the fact that George W. Bush and his administration were worried that this could ruin the USA – Russia relationship if Kraft asked for his ring back.

Kraft wanted to get the ring back, but the White House allegedly told him to let it go.

“I really didn’t [want to]. I had an emotional tie to the ring, it has my name on it,” Kraft said. “I don’t want to see it on eBay. There was a pause on the other end of the line, and the voice repeated, ‘It would really be in the best interest if you meant to give the ring as a present.’”

It’s a good thing for Kraft that he has more than one ring. He just needs to keep those out of Putin’s sights.
