Next time the Oakland Athletics ownership attempts to get a new stadium they’re going to have a pretty good reason in their back pocket.

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, there has been a raw sewage flood at the Oakland A’s / Oakland Raiders O.co Stadium which has now spilled into the locker room of both the Athletics and the opposition, the Seattle Mariners.

Per Slusser:

"#Athletics need a new stadium: a flood on clubhouse level means both teams showering in Raiders locker room. It’s raw sewage coming up from the shower drains by the way. I’m told some hideous details I don’t want to share. New building, please. This can’t be all that safe. Players from both team racing up and down stairs in towels and shower shoes. #Athletics #Mariners"

Seattle Mariners beat writer Shannon Drayer says the filth has the Mariners scrambling:

"Unbelievable. Pipes backing up in both clubhouses. Mariners scrambling to get out. Training room and showers flooded and not stopping."

The Oakland Tribune’s Carl Steward also has more on it:

"Coliseum flood caused by excessive toilet flushing, running water from sellout crowd. Both clubhouses, umpires room hit with water, sewage.Check of umpires’ dressing room at Coliseum: ghastly: wet toilet paper all over the floor and … you don’t want to know more.#Athletics clubhouse manager Steve Vucinich says it’s likely carpet, soaked with sewage, will have to be ripped out and replaced."

The nasty details, if you want them, are out there on Twitter though I’ll keep it relatively mild here considering it’s dinner time on the West Coast.

Funny though – I don’t remember this part in Moneyball. Must be a deleted scene.
