2013 NBA Finals: Gregg Popovich Compares Danny Green To Bruce Bowen
After game 5 of the NBA Finals, Gregg Popovich continued to intimidate reporters by shooting down one question after another. Following another shooting outburst by Danny Green, Pop was asked if Green reminded him of Bruce Bowen, a question the San Antonio Spurs head coach found a little more interesting.
Popovich agreed with the notion that Danny Green does remind him a little bit of Bowen, saying, “”I guess they’re both similar in that neither one of them has any moves.”
It is actually an interesting point and Green, while still relatively young, does remind a little bit of Bowen. Bruce made a name for himself for two things: physical and gritty defense and excellent spot-up shooting.
While Bowen was limited in the things he could do on the court, he became a specialist of his craft. He helped the Spurs to three NBA championships, made the NBA All-Defensive First Team five times in his career, and his number is retired by the Spurs.
It is not a bad comparison and Green could very well follow in the footsteps of Bowen. He is already an excellent 3-point shooter and has the green light from beyond the arc. His defense is also pretty solid, and these two attributes can carry you a long way in this league.
