This morning news surfaced that three boneheaded Atlanta radio hosts on 790 AM made inappropriate jokes about former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason and it was met with immediate backlash on social media. The three men involved were immediately suspended from the station and now we have learned that they have been rightfully fired from their jobs.

You don’t like to see anyone lose their jobs, but when you use your public platform to insult a guy that has a life-threatening disease, you get what is coming to you. Anyone else on the station that knew the skit was coming and gave it the green light should also be axed.

If you want to hear the insulting Gleason bit, you can listen here.

A member of Gleason’s team was contacted by the Times-Picayune and he decided to take the high road.

“At this time, we don’t feel the need to issue a statement as it just takes time away from the important things Steve and Team Gleason are doing,” Durrett said Monday afternoon. “Currently, Steve is enjoying a much needed vacation in the Northwest and spending time with friends and family. He is having an extraordinary day so far, having been the guest writer for Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback and is now interviewing Pearl Jam.

“Following up the rest of the day, Steve will be with Michel and son Rivers enjoying the lakes and mountains that surround them, which is far more important than addressing a talk show that has no relevance to his efforts.”

Again, it is unfortunate that someone thought it would be okay to mock a man in this condition, but thankfully the right move was made to deal with the asinine segment that was nowhere near humorous.
