Philadelphia Eagles News: Michael Vick, Jason Kelce

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has a big year ahead of him in 2013, and he has a big chance to break out in his third season in the league. Kelce is an ideal fit for Chip Kelly’s fast-paced offense due to his athleticism at the center position, and the Eagles and Kelly also believe that Kelce is the perfect match for what they need at center.

Last season, Kelce suffered a severe knee injury that cost him his season and stability on the offensive line for the Eagles, but CSN Philly’s Geoff Mosher reports that Kelce is “fully recovered” from those knee issues. The Eagles limited Kelce in training camp, but he has been medically cleared and is all systems go for Eagles training camp.

Snoop Dogg thinks the Philadelphia Eagles should start Michael Vick at quarterback, and I agree with him as somebody who believes Vick is still an above-average quarterback. But Nick Foles is definitely going to give him a big challenge, even if he doesn’t fit Kelly’s speedy offense. As for Matt Barkley, he’s definitely in the mix as well, and it’s going to be an all-out battle there. In fact, Mosher wrote the accurate, “This will probably be the most fluid positional battle on the roster.”

Without even factoring the importance of the quarterback position, I would say that this is the “most fluid position battle” on the Eagles roster. Vick looks like the early favorite, but it is basically wide open. Anyone can grab the opportunity, but the feeling is that anyone could also play themselves right back out of it. Chip Kelly isn’t going to bench Foles just because he isn’t athletic or fits Kelly’s speed offense, because Kelly is a smart enough coach to adapt to his personnel, especially his QB. Foles has a fair shot at beating out Vick for sure, and it’s going to be incredibly close, but my money is on Vick to bounce back.
