According to a report from ESPN, San Diego Chargers team doctor David Chao is stepping down.

Chao, according to the report, says he is stepping down due to a “bad back” but the more likely scenario is due to the lingering medical malpractice rumors that have swirled around Chao and the Chargers for months now.

Per ESPN:

"Embattled Chargers team doctor David Chao says he is stepping down due to a bad back.Earlier this year, the NFL Players Association called for Chao to be replaced and filed a complaint. An independent panel cleared Chao."

Chao was cleared from any wrongdoing by three independent medical experts during a review, but that hasn’t stopped the continued onslaught towards Chao who was accused of negligence and was ordered to pay over $5 million dollars to a former patient in a malpractice suit.

Chao also assisted the San Diego Padres for a time being in addition to being the Chargers head physician.
