David Beckham has been one of the most popular footballers in the world, but he is finally calling his soccer career to rest and could be eyeing a different type of football to stay in the spotlight. According to the Mirror Online, there is some Beckham around the league and some teams could be willing to take a shot at the soccer sensation. The report even states that he has been offered a tryout from an unnamed team.

From the report, “an NFL franchise scout contacted the star to see if he would be interested in trying out as a star kicker.”

It may seem ridiculous, but you never know in today’s league.

For a team looking to boost attendance or create excitement, this could be the kind of stunt that would be worth a preseason experiment. After all, this YouTube trick shot video got Harvard Rugland a shot with the Detroit Lions — which is looking like a job that he could actually win.

Beckham wouldn’t be the first former soccer player to give the NFL a shot, but he would certainly be the most popular. It is worth noting that Beckham’s strength as a player came from set pieces in soccer, which could potentially translate to success with field goals. It’s a long shot, but there have been crazier ideas — like Usain Bolt trying to be a wide receiver.

It is highly unlikely that we will ever see Beckham on an NFL field, but hey, if a team is willing to take on the Tim Tebow circus then a shot on one of the best soccer players in recent memory could be worth a shot.
