A month ago, Phil Jackson was all set to take on a front office role for the ‘new’ Seattle Supersonics franchise.

Of course, that didn’t work out as the Sacramento Kings, who were on the chopping block remained in California leaving Jackson, a thirteen-time NBA Champion out of work.

So what’s a lonely former coach to do? Return to his former stomping grounds, apparently.

While Jackson was very clear last week that he no longer wanted to coach in the NBA, a front office role is something that has intrigued him and he’s apparently found a role with his former Los Angeles Lakers.

Per Arash Markazi:

"Phil Jackson and Mitch Kupchak have been talking about the Lakers recently. He’s not coaching again but has become a “consultant” of sorts.Phil: “They asked if I can be of assistance. I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll help in whatever area you need to have help.”Jackson said he has “no intention of coaching” but smiled when told intentions change. “I know. Don’t they?”Jeanie obviously would love Phil to coach the Lakers but said she won’t make a play to take Jim’s role in basketball operations.Phil not taking any jobs has made him essentially a Lakers consultant in the short-term and maybe something more long-term."

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said while Jackson doesn’t have an ‘official’ job or job title with the Lakers, he’ll play a role of ‘consultant’ figure.
