We may have a situation brewing where an NBA agent is about to ruin his client by being an agent. Dan Fegan is the agent of Sacramento Kings forward DeMarcus Cousins but he’s demanding that the Kings give his client a max contract or they will threaten to demand a trade. Cousins isn’t allowed to speak on the matter as Fegan has put a gag order on him which means while Cousins may disagree with this, he can’t let anyone know about it.

According to The Sacramento Bee:

"His agent, Dan Fegan, has instructed Cousins not to speak on anything relating to the Kings team, management or ownership. Cousins is eligible for a contract extension this summer, and Fegan wants a maximum deal for his client with the threat of a trade demand looming if a deal isn’t reached."

Cousins obviously wants to get paid, but now might not be the right time to ask for a max deal. What Fegan doesn’t realize is that a max contract needs to be earned and even then a player doesn’t always get it. Look at Kevin Love with the Minnesota Timberwolves who has become the face of the franchise only to get shortchanged on a max deal.

But before you think Cousins is locked up in a dark room in pain and embarrassment over asking the Kings for a max deal, remember that he can always fire Fegan if he thinks he’s not doing the job he wants him to do.

Still, this situation is volatile already and Fegan is upping the stakes in a game the Kings might have no interest in playing with him or Cousins this summer.
