Former Phoenix Suns head coach Alvin Gentry was a candidate for the Memphis Grizzlies head coaching job but once that filled up, his options narrowed. Now with few head coaching jobs remaining, Gentry has had to take a step back and is deciding between two job offers, one from the Los Angeles Clippers and one from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles:

"Alvin Gentry will soon decide between an offer to be an assistant coach on Mike D’Antoni’s staff with the Los Angeles Lakers and an invitation to be an associate head coach on Doc Rivers’ new staff with the Los Angeles Clippers, a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Tuesday night."

It should be a tough decision for Gentry as the Lakers job would provide a familiarity with both Steve Nash and Mike D’Antoni, however, the title of associate head coach with the Clippers would look better on the resume. It may also give Gentry the chance to be a head coach again as Rivers received the VP of Basketball Operations title with the Clippers, so he may move into a front office role once his three year contract runs out.

Either way – it looks like Gentry will be calling the Staples Center home, it’s just a matter of for what occupant.
