NFL Issues Statement on Aaron Hernandez Arrest
By Josh Sanchez
New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was finally arrested this morning on charges related to the murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd and they quickly made the decision to release him. This led to immediate speculation about a potential suspension from the NFL, but the league issued a statement shortly after his release that didn’t shed any light on that potential scenario.
The league issued their statement as a reminder to remember the sensitivity of the issue.
“The involvement of an NFL player in a case of this nature is deeply troubling,” the statement read. “The Patriots have released Aaron Hernandez, who will have his day in court.
“At the same time, we should not forget the young man who was the victim in this case and take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathy to Odin Lloyd’s family and friends.”
It is important to remember that Hernandez has not been charged of any crimes.
As hard as it may be considering the evidence mounted against him, we should consider Hernandez innocent until proven guilty.
