Draft Grade: B

The Atlanta Hawks selected Shane Larkin, the point guard out of the University of Miami. It appears as though this pick will be moved to the Dallas Mavericks as part of the trade that went down a little earlier in the evening. Larkin is a solid point guard, and was rumored to potentially be drafted earlier in the first round.

He’s a good fit with the Mavericks, and they’ll go ahead and take on the first round guaranteed salary and the additional assets acquired by trading down in the draft. The Mavericks need a little bit of everything right now, so it’s hard to get too riled up about this selection. At the same time, it’s a little strange that the Mavs appear to be taking on this salary.

Why not trade all the way out of the round, like they were originally expected to do? As it stands, it looks like Cleveland will probably take Karasev at #19. He was my pick for who Dallas would select if they did indeed stay in the first round. Reggie Bullock from UNC is also a possibility here for the Cavaliers, leaving the door open for the Bulls to select Gorgui Dieng or Jamaal Franklin with the #20 pick.
