After the non-surprise of the Washington Wizards selecting Otto Porter, Jr. at #3 overall, the Charlotte Bobcats selected the fast-rising Cody Zeller, forward/center out of Indiana. The rumors were flying hot and heavy today that the Bobcats had fallen in love with Zeller, and if Oladipo was off the board, he would be their pick.

There remains a slight chance this pick is moved, as there are a number of other teams that were very high on Zeller as well. A potential trade centered around Zeller, Derrick Williams, and the #9 pick was discussed with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and depending on how pick number five through eight go, it remains a slim possibility.

With the Bobcats, Zeller fills an obvious need. He’s a nice fit next to the still-developing Bismack Biyombo, and the Bobcats still have some decent, albeit limited back court players to run with next year. His ability to run the floor with Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will be effective and certainly fun to watch, but the front court and the wings in general still need some help moving forward.

Allegedly, the Suns have red-flagged Nerlens Noel, so he will likely continue his free-fall past the fifth pick. The Hornets will take a point guard at #6, so it’s anyone’s guess after that….
