After being shut out by Derek Holland and the Texas Rangers today, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi literally threw in the towel:

The loss dropped the Yankees to 42-36, a pretty respectable record for most – especially given the amount of injuries the Bronx Bombers have had to deal with this year. That said, their record is only good for third in the tough American League East division (four games behind the leading Baltimore Orioles) and if the playoffs were start today, the Yankees wouldn’t even get a chance for the Wild Card game.

Frustrations have been mounting for both the fans and Girardi as the Yankees’ current slump has them at 5-10 over their past fifteen games, this after starting the season on such a hot streak.

Hopefully with a handful of players hopefully returning to health after the All-Star break, the Yankees can continue to limp along until they get a much desired rest.
