The Dallas Cowboys have some good news about their fifth-round pick Joseph Randle. The former Oklahoma State running back has been wearing a cast on his injured thumb and he has been expecting to have the cast removed since mid-June, but there has been one thing holding back the cast removal — his doctor is on vacation.

From Alex Marvez of FOX Sports:

Randle is expected to be the Cowboys primary back up to starter DeMarco Murray and his versatility helps him become an immediate contributor.

The fact that Randle will be able to go out during training camp and really get involved in the blocking and passing game without any restrictions will help his development throughout July.

Put a healthy Randle on the field for preseason games, and the team will get a much better look at what they have in their new back up running back. If the early indications are accurate, Randle will be just fine and he could be relied on to carry the load if Murray goes down with another injury.
