The Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic were tentatively expected to make a draft night trade last evening, but early in the day we were told the two sides would not make a deal.

The proposed trade, which would send Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe to Orlando in exchange for Arron Afflalo never included any draft picks so there was no need to complete the trade prior to the draft.

According to the Orlando Magic though, while not actively talking, they will probably have interest in rekindling trade talks in the next few weeks, if not sooner.

Per Brian Schmitz:

"Magic GM Rob Hennigan says nothing active on Arron Afflalo–Eric Bledsoe trade but it could be “re-visted” this summer."

While we’re not sure which side held up the deal, one could presume it was the Clippers given Bledsoe (at least on the surface) appears to be the player with the most talent/highest ceiling in the deal and given the fact Los Angeles would be parting with their lone backup point guard.

Impending free agent Chris Paul is expected to re-sign with Los Angeles given their acquisition of Doc Rivers, but it wouldn’t make a ton of sense for the Clippers to move Bledsoe until Paul’s name is on the dotted line.
