Everybody should know by now  that New England’s weapons at the TE position are looking bleaker and bleaker each week it seems. With Gronkowski’s numerous surgeries, and the releasing of Hernandez, the Patriots are in a pickle at Tight End. Sure, they picked up Tim Tebow, who many speculate could be vying for a spot on the roster as a TE, but that’s up for debate and there is currently no set role for Tebow yet.

So where does New England look to next? Well, they can start to look into free agency, with Tight Ends who have experience in the NFL. Players like Dallas Clark and Visanthe Shiancoe could been seen as possible fits for the Patriots’ offensive schemes. Aside from the free agent market, is has been speculated that the Patriots would be more inclined to look at a possible trade for a tight end.

In an article on ESPNBoston.com, it was said that,

"Another route that the team could explore would be a trade, targeting players who could find themselves buried on a tight end depth chart elsewhere. A few names that come to mind are D.J Williams of the Packers, Clay Harbor of the Eagles and Tony Moeaki of the Chiefs."

It will be interesting to see which direction the New England Patriots take in the coming months as we are headed to the preseason in just a few weeks. I would think that the New England Patriots are going to try to look for a veteran TE, who’s got experience working with great QBs. Someone like Dallas Clark, who is aging a bit, could be a good fit in NE for a year or two. It’s also important to think bout someone like Tony Moeaki, who has received passes from Matt Cassel, Brady’s former back-up.
