Umpire Jerry Layne Gets Hit in Face With Foul Ball (GIF)

A year ago, umpire Jerry Layne was hit in the head by a broken bat. And now he can add a foul tipped ball to that list as well. Monday’s game went in favor of the Tampa Bay Rays as they beat the Minnesota Twins, 7-4. But the story of the game belongs to the home plate umpire, or as I like to call him, Mr. Magnet Face. It’s unfortunate that something like this happened to the same guy twice in the span of just over a year, first with a bat and now a ball. However, with the magic of GIFs this unfortunately becomes a little humorous. When he got hit in the face with a broken bat last June, Layne was forced to miss the rest of that series. Hopefully, he won’t have to miss the same or any amount of time for this unlucky occurrence. It was a good thing he had a mask on for this one.
