Matt Garza of the Chicago Cubs may be the hottest name in all of sports right now as he is actively involved in an overwhelming amount of MLB trade rumors with he and the team not seeing eye to eye on a new contract with the trade deadline looming.
Apparently a trade might now happen after all, as one report states the Cubs are exploring extending his contract. Here’s Gordon Wittenmyer of The Chicago Sun Times via Twitter:
Garza calls possibility of extension "50-50." Team sources say not happening based on recent conversation.

However, CSN Chicago’s David Kaplan and anonymous GM’s don’t believe it:
I don't believe for 1second that Cubs are seriously considering signing Matt Garza to a long term extension. Price keeps going up in trade.

An AL exec I spoke with tonight told me "Theo and Jed know that they have a great asset. They will not cave on what they want in return."

Take away from all of this what you want. The safe bet is the Cubs would not mind making things work with Garza, but only at their price. The reports of an extended contract could simply be their way of making other teams give up even more for him in return in fear that they may not be able to obtain him at all.
The drama continues. Stay tuned.
