The Seattle Seahawks’ 12th man is a point of pride for their franchise. They’re raucous has been a focal point of their home-field advantage over the years. Now they’re looking to prove they’re the loudest crowd on record.

A unaffiliated Seahawks fan group called Volume 12 has organized the event and applied with Guinness to have the noise level monitored at the home opener. That game is against their divisional rival, the San Francisco 49ers.

The current record is 131.76 decibels, according to SeattlePI.com. It was set on March 18, 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey at the Ali Sami Yen Sport Complex Turk Telekom Arena by fans of Turkey’s Galatasaray S.K. club. It’s a soccer club for those one aware. If you’re a casual fan you’ll know Didier Drogba, and he played their last season.

According to NFL.com:

The Seahawks’ official website documents the highest decibel level at CenturyLink at 112. However, the 60,000-seat stadium holds 7,000 more fans than the current record holder.

With a little extra incentive say Guinness book of records and their divisional foes being there, they could break it.
