While Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is progressing well from a double ankle surgery this offseason, the recovery time may linger into training camp and it’s not known how much of it Stewart may miss.

Per Joe Person:

"Rivera says Jonathan Stewart is progressing well after offseason surgery on both ankles, but wouldn’t say if he’d be ready for start of camp."

Stewart underwent the double ankle surgery shortly after the season ended, but despite the solid rehab, it’s been a slow recovery process.

The former Oregon product was extremely limited during OTA’s recently, simply riding the stationary bike, watching the on-field action unfold.

With both DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert in the mix, any time Stewart misses will likely push him towards the back of the ‘three headed’ committee – not exactly something he was hoping for.

The injury may force the hand of the Panthers though, who seemingly couldn’t decide what running back they wanted to use last year, flipping the backs in and out of their rotation.

Stewart finished last year with 336 yards on 93 rushing attempts.
