Geno Smith has done a good job of shedding the “diva” label during the New York Jets minicamps and OTAs, but those concerns could raise again after Smith decided not to show up to Mark Sanchez’s annual “Jet West” camp in California despite receiving an invitation.

According to Kristian Dyer of Metro New York, the second-round pick was not present when the Jets teammates gathered on Wednesday.

Sanchez organized the camp and invites quarterbacks and wide receivers every year. The goal of the camp is to build and strengthen the chemistry between the receivers and quarterbacks heading in to training camp.

While Sanchez is building his relationships with his teammates, it will just improve his chances of hanging on to the starting quarterback job.

For Smith, it is a questionable move to pass up on the invitation.

If he wants to win the starting job, he should be doing what he can to familiarize himself with his new teammates. By choosing not to show up at the camp, it could hurt the perception from his teammates.
