On the day he became an All-Star, Rays pitcher Matt Moore showed us why he deserved those votes. He won his 13th game of the 2013 season, as well as helping the Rays bring their win streak to 8 games with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Rays Manager Joe Madden said this of Moore,

"Truly an All-Star performance. This is like wrapping it all into a nice little package."

Moore gave up three runs, three hits, two walks and had 10 strikeouts in a 7 1/3 inning outing against the Twins. Tonight also wrapped up a sweep of Minnesota. The eighth straight win put Tampa Bay thirteen games over .500, although they are still in second place in the AL East.

When asked about becoming a part of the all-star squad, Moore said,

"It means a lot. I’m ecstatic about being part of the festivities and being at the game with the best players in the game."

Even Minnesota’s manager, Ron Gardenhire was impressed with Moore. He had this to say,

"Moore was really good with filthy stuff and all the guys they brought out threw the ball really well, but we’ve still got to put the ball in play better than we did the last couple of days, and that really affected the outcomes of games."

Maybe the Rays can keep this streak going, who knows? Tampa Bay is still 3.5 games behind Boston for the lead of the AL East, but anything can happen…it’s only July.
